I have about 14 hens and 2 roosters. Last night I lost 3 hens-I am unsure how they died however I know it was a disease or illness of some sort.
This morning I found another one dead on the roost area. Today I stayed home and carefully checked in on them every hour. I bought some chicken 'gatorade' electrolights...
Just gave them that but some aren't drinking or eating at all and worst of all there are some making some gurgling sounds...My rooster constantly has his mouth open and my little hens (and roosters) are gurgling, sneezing and making awkward painful crys.
Please help me I don't want them to die.
Note- I have a 5-6 year old chicken in there, many are 1-2 years and some are 3 years old... Please help me some of them won't eat of drink!
1) What type of bird , age and weight. -
Most are Rhode Island Reds, (I don't know the other breeds sorry) some black and white striped hens, and black hens
2) What is the behavior, exactly.-
Gurgling noises, mouths are open, no roosters crowing, not really moving (if their sick)
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
1 day and a half
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
yes
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Not that I see
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Uncleaned coop (I haven't cleaned it for 2-4 weeks
)
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.-
Some are some aren't like my rooster isn't
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. -
Most is runnynormalish?
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? -
electrolights
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Treat myself
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
Might post one later...hopefully
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Shavings and the house is about 6 ft by 6 ft and has a waterer and feeder along with 5 hen boxes and a roost above and a cabinet to the right. Under the cabinet is another roost
