Wow, everyone is entitled to their opinion. So here is mine:
LMAO @ decades.....come on is that a solution? And how much will it cost to repair the damage in the end? How many decades will our taxes be raised to fix that cluster-youknowwhat
Drilling domestically is not going to dramatically drop oil prices. Much of our current cost is domestic. You want to blame someone for our current crisis blame your politicians who are backed by these companies and LOVE the speculators who make the prices spriral sky high based on what? Oh yeah based on NOTHING, thats why they are speculators.
Demand is driven largely by the energy squandering of the United States and by the rapidly growing economies of China and India. These forces, along with investor speculation, will continue to drive prices up.
Drilling in Alaska won't change this equation.
Currently your pump price breaksdown like this:
Less than 50% is for the purchase of crude oil
shocking huh.
Domestic Refining is nearly a quarter of the cost and the other 25% is for marketing and taxes.
Even if the crude were domestic the cost per barrel would not vary by much, you would be talking about a savings of pennies.
Go ahead ruin ANWR, drill every corner of the earth, but until we find SUSTAINABLE energy sources it wont make much of a difference. Destroying the wildlife refuge is a bandaid at what cost?
Did you know that the vast majority of the first automobiles that were made ran on electricity. We have the technology to send rovers to mars yet can't improve on the modern transportation crisis...hmmmm
