Yesterday I hatched 2 bantam chicks for the first time using a incubator. The second chick pecked a hole and then had a rest for 2 hours or so then hatched within 30mins however the first chick found it very difficult to hatch and barely took a break as I watched them closely. He struggled for a least 9 hours to get out of the egg and as soon as he hatched he was gasping for air I thought this was normal as I never hatched chick in a incubator before and he just needed time to regain his strength however he is still continuing the same behaviour he’s laying on his back gasping for air! I’ve tried giving him sugar water and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Is there anything I can do to help? What is wrong?
