One of my hens has been under the weather lately, and I'm curious if you have ever seen anything similar......
She is a year old, semi-free range, Barred Partridge Rock and on Tuesday she was very very very ill, laying behind the coop, couldn't stand, could barely open her eyes.
I dosed her repeatedly with Epsom salts (in case she got into something that poisoned her), electrolyte/vitamin water (to boost her system up). When she started eating again, I also mixed some Kefir (probiotics), with oatmeal and garlic (to aid any digestion issues) and she ate a good bit of that. I also soaked her in a warm Epsom salt bath in case she was egg-bound.
She has been improving since then, almost back to normal, just slower.
However, when I feel her crop, it feels like a balloon (not like a beanbag-like usual). And I am able to gently squeeze it and make her burp. It was REALLY inflated on Tuesday when she was acting very very sick, and has lessened, but is still puffy. I cannot feel any stopped up eggs in her, but when I gently squeeze her "tummy", her vent contracts and she will make a wet (clear liquid) fart.
I have heard of impacted crop, but never gassy or ballooned crop.
Have any of your hens ever exhibited symptoms like this before?
Thanks in advance.....
