I"m going to have a silkie in a sale pen (others for sale in the van) I'll put my cell number on the pen, so anyone who doesn't know me, can give me a call, and we can get together. Does anyone need a lavender bantam ameraucana rooster?? I've got a few and not planning on bring them, but will if someone wants one.
GOOD luck greencastle. I am too stupid to get nervous. I'll be right there with ya with my Red Speckled Sussex pullet. She is a late July hatch. Her mom is from TSC, and daddy is from a hatchery in MO. I went to Scottsburg IN to get an RIR cockerel. My friend who knew I was going said, "your certainly going to get the Red Spekcled Sussex cockerel for $5 too?" I said no, but I am now. lolol The hen went broody and hatched out 2 nice girls last July. Prolly taking the wrong one of the two. lololol
We should talk.... we both will probably be nervous. I just relized today that its a little over a week away!!!! OMGOODNESS that doesnt seem like very long!!! I'm very nervous about my chickens not so much my ducks. hopefully all will be well.... im also very nervous about the preparations before hand as well. I'm sad that i cant take any ameraucanas.. my favorite breed EVER
I have a small flock of Blue Ameraucanas. One really nice male. My flock is from Jean and Heather lines. Last spring I was just getting into Exhibition birds, and a friend told me to buy a Black Ameraucana from Heather. Then she said I should get a few eggs from Jean. The birds I have are nice. But, the chicks their producing are better in color. I think my one splash boy is very nice. Big boned. He is just a splash though. I did just hatch out another 6. 3 Blues 3 splashes.
I need to wash ALL of the birds I am taking. Their filthy. lolol There's alot of mud around here. Tomorrow should be a great day to bath them. Being my first time, I expect to just have fun. Not much more.
I need to wash mine too but i dont think i will until next week because i dont like to wash chickens.... its up there with cleaning out cages and pens!! Some of them are not well behaved during the event and it can get ugly (for me not them). I'm taking more ducks than chickens. So that means less work for me
Everypne that is just starting out yo need to wash your birds 5 to 7 day before the show to ensure all the natural oils are built back up on the feathers other wise they will be stringy or shreded up!
If you have silkies that you are showing it is ok to wait 2 days before the show on them!
I'm going I hope to find some silkies to take home
so if any are going and have some pm me and we can talk
it will be my first show but Im just attending maybe next yr I ll show we are going to look things over and to hopefully get my son a show bird for the yr. our own dog got his show bird this yr needless to say we dont have the dog any more So good luck to those that are showing
