I did the same. Was up at 3am. Got there at 7:30 am. Came home and snoozed infront of the TV.
Really can't say winning anything is a big deal. Not too many Orpingtons (5 total) in the Open show. So, having the only two Black Orps winning BV & RV means nuttin. Same with my lonely only Speckled Sussex pullet. She too got a BB, again with no other Red Speckled Sussex's, and her being the only Red Speckled Sussex in the open show it is a hollow victory. My Cochins also did good IF all you count as a Victory is BV & Reserve BB. Reality, there was only 4 LF Cochins. the Cochin that won was a gorgeous Blue hen.
Congrats to Doug Akers and his awesome Buff Hen and cockerel. His Buff hen took best English. His cockerel was near equally as perfect.
Some good always comes out of a show. While bringing home no birds is not all bad. Doug is getting me some of his Buff Orp eggs for me too pick up at the next Show in Columbus IN. Doug ONLY has 5 Buff girls, so there is little chance of getting second tier quality when getting eggs or chicks. PLUS, Doug NEVER sells eggs. I guess he likes me, I am getting them free, I feel lucky.

well for my first show ever and not getting DQ'ed was a victory for me so I was excited either way. And apparently there were only two speckled sussex in the whole thing because mine was the only one on the jr. side. hope to see you all in May!

Their rare at the shows. I was sorta bummed to see the judge just write on the card and not get to have handle the bird to judge the bird against another. My Buff Cochin hen had the same experience. She was on the other side of the isle from the other 3 LF Cochins and didn't get seen or handled by the judge. When it was brought to his attention he just wrote on the card and did not take her out of the cage. Hope at Columbus she gets a better spot. lololol

But it says its the first annual show in columbus so the turn out could be anything. I have to say our only judge got out and took every bird in that show out of its cage and handled them! Other than the goose he even handled my ducks! I had fun and I was just glad I didnt see "cond. or wing cond. or DQ" on the card that was a victory in its self. I'm taking more to the Columbus show. I'm taking two of my bantam cochins, a serama, my ducks, a speckled sussex, and maybe a black bantam ameraucana... well see how that goes. We'll have to talk sussex at the next show yesterday all I did was pace and stalk the judge when ever he got near one of my birds. I'm just a psycho like that LOL

I also got a new serama rooster and a bantam cochin rooster that I'm thrilled with!!

I called and wrote the guy who is in charge of puttin on the Columbus IN Show. I like to get a few birds in.
I was pretty hyped on the judgiong, and watched and listened. Even on breeds I do not have, I watched the judge in the large fowl. Yeah, I was sorta wondering how well my Buff Cochin hen can get judged in a cage without handling. Giving the judge a break, he did already have marked the white cards with his choice for BB and RV BB for the Cochins before he found out about her. She must have a glaring fault. I will only show the boy from now on or just not show them at all. Too much a pain to keep an LF Cochin clean to show IF there is something so obviously wrong with her to not be handled or the cage opened. lololol
I think in the Junior division they make more of an attempt to explain how they judge a bird and don't like in the birds. I did see one judge mark a bird as DQ due to a twisted wing. But that was by one judge's opinion, the other judge liked that bird. It is only an opinion, and got to remember that.
I am happy to come back with no birds and a promise from Doug for a dozen eggs or so. Beggars can't be choosers, and Doug rarely sells eggs. I did see him selling White Leghorn Bantam eggs. I bet their to kill for. All his birds are.
Hope to bring a few birds to Columbus. It depends when the dead line is and how my girls are lookin.
cya there

My son didn't show this year, but we went anyways. We came home with a mutt chick because it was orange. My son is inlove with her. I hope it is a her.

Hey Heather, your baby girl you gave me last summer is producing some great looking chicks with Jean's Blue cockerel I have. This is one girl they produced in January.
Still have a few Marans cockerels for you to look over. Just ask and you can have one.

IF anyone would like a few chicks or eggs from these breedings just hook up with me at the Columbus IN Show on May 1st.
