hello everyone...i have been reading people's suggestions on gatorade &/or electrolytes in the heat of summer. what about the cold of winter? thoughts? thank you.

Electrolyte has a high salt content usually. This can be beneficial in the heat of summer because they need it during that time of heat but even then you don't want to use too much but if given in cool weather the salt can build up in the body. And is not good for them. It can be hard on the kidneys. I would not want to use the electrolytes in the winter for that reason. In the summer it can be benefit them but in the winter they would not get that same benefit . Hope this is helpful and wish you the best.

hello...and thank you.

i had thought about making some treat blocks (scratch grains, maybe some breakfast cereal/bread scraps/leftover pasta/meat bits) with rendered bacon fat, but changed my mind because of the potential for excess salt (although with all the stuff i'd be putting in and, the low frequency of giving it to them, the bacon fat would be a pretty small component).

i would never give gatorade straight up ... even in the hot summer. i would probably treat it like apple cider vinegar tonic. but even so, salt is salt, .... a word to the wise.

thanks once again.

Yeah Gatorade is far too much sodium considering how much smaller than us we are. Electrolytes sould only be used time to time they dont quite need as much in the winter but its not a bad idea to shoot them some in the middle. Go buy some made for fowl.
A good supplement for all ur around is Red Cell. Is a horse supplement and does wonders for my birds a drop per gal of water.

Apple cider vinegar in water is great and will help to bring the PH in their bodies down. Thats a good idea mam!
