now Im not a racist, but were they latin? Im latin and I think I can speak for more then half of the spanish people and say a dubbed rooster is what we are used to. In our culture its a normal thing. And its only cruel if done inhumanly. I think everyone should leave it alone,if you were used to seeing a dubbed bird all your life then it would be strange not to see it the way you have since the the start. Its only cruel and strange to people that have installed in their brain that a roo is supposed to have a comb. Its like saying why is 2+2=4? BECAUSE THATS THE WAY WE WERE TAUGHT! When something is different to the way you have always known then you have to question it to some point.
I had to do a double take to make sure I was looking at the right bird in the before and after... kinda a find the difference in this photo thing... I agree although he does look really different in the head area, I am glad he is back with you... Was he happy, did he remember you and the family! How old were these kids to have given up so early at taking care of him?
I hate to say it but I agree with everyone else. This sounds like someone was planning to use this bird for fighting. The dubbing for frostbite? Not likely. The chopped spurs. More than likely for razor saddles. And all roos? They could use the excuse for the chopped spurs saying they didnt wanna be flogged with them. But if you have all roos that you didnt raise from chicks, more than likely you will be flogged. Srry this is just really wrong.

Thank you for reviving a dead thread that was pretty much already settled. What is a "razor saddle"? IF they were used for cockfighting wouldn't the bird be dead since birds that will fight (like actual games that fight because it's their nature) kill the other birds if they were running loose together?
ETA: And another thing! Too often people on this site push this "Roosters will kill you" propaganda when the truth is if the bird is not abused IE: kicked, choked, picked at, etc. aggressive nature isn't in his genetics, or he's doing his job to protect his ladies/territory the birds will not attack you. I have had over 200-300 roosters at one time (separated of course) and i think i may have only had..... Ten birds in my life time that would bite/flog people, though some will if you startle them (you are too right? someone randomly grabs you out of nowhere or freaks you out and you either think "hit " or "run") but that's not aggressive behavior, that is simply you misunderstanding them. People will tell you the same thing about dogs, horses, cats etc. You're just misunderstanding their actions at that time, it doesn't make them aggressive animals... So raising them from chicks helps some, but who it's raised by doesn't exactly matter.. I have bought many roosters from other people i wanted to breed into my lines or get started with a certain breed (like Old english bantams, i got a few pairs of full grown birds... I wasn't attacked once)... Even if the birds were not handled as chicks, it's very possible to bring them around with a little time spent handling them.
Sorry if i seem angry, just a little agitated how people immediately think anyone who owns games or more than 2 roosters fights them. Same as dubbing...
dubbing is really needed when a joining a poultry show.. that's an automatically disqualification if the bird is not dubbed
dubbing is not only for fighting..
it also helps the bird avoiding getting some frost bites
and some times if they have a pea comb its hard for them to see because its blocking their eyes.
and cutting spurs too are not only for fighting they cut the spurs to avoid accidents.sometimes when its too long it hurts them when they roosting on a poll or branch
i don't see any reason why they dub him
dont worry he is definately ok..hes still such a beauty

I understand what your saying, and i wasnt saying that they try to kill you. My best rooster will flog me simply if I grab his hen. But i was saying most people use that excuse. And a razor saddle is just what ive always heard people call leather knife braclets. And saying that there intentions where to use him for cockfighting, maybe. Just didnt do it. I am not saying that they did use him or where planning to. It just sound wierd. And I understand everything you are saying. I agree with it all. I wasnt meaning it like you took it, and I can understand you thinking that now that I have read over what I posted. I was saying that too many people use that for an excuse. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
