G'day from Oz!

Hello, from a fellow Aussie. And I love my coronation sussex too. I have a dozen coro eggs on day 5. In the incubator . My Roos name is " king George ". I wonder if Kate and Wills, will borrow his name. Lol.

Wow! that sounds like you have a very busy and enjoyable life!
My chook family has exploded in the last couple of days.. I now also have 8 silver sebrights. The most recent tally is
4 muscovies,
3 OEG's
9 utility hens,
1 light sussex hen,
1 coronation sussex rooster
8 sebrights.

a month ago I had 12 utility hens!

oh and 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Wow Fancy!! We named our boy George too! for the same reason. I wonder how many other coro boys are called George??

I sing Georgie Peorgy pud in a pie, kissed the girls and made them cry. The fertility rate hasn't been very good yet. George spends too much time at the fence, eyeballing king Henry , the light sussex roo. But he is so gorgeous, I'll forgive him for his vanity , for now.

I just love your little ditty! My George is about the same, but prefers to sleep in the sun, Bertie the OEG would just kill to be in George's coop, all those girls and him on the other side!!! George has just started crowing, hasn't got all his tail feathers yet. I just adore George, I was given a light sussex pol pullet, she is just a darling. Her name is of course, Georgina.

Well fancy that! Your Georgina is gorgeous . We hatched 2 coro's & 2 light sussex out today. Will try to get some pics up.

I just love the Sussex breeds, they are so placid and gentle. I had an altercation with a sebright roo this afternoon, he flew at me probably about 6 times all up. Not that he did any damage, but what do I do with an aggressive rooster? Can any body make an suggestions? I realise it is a dominance thing, but how can I stop him feeling threatened?

Most people would say " cull " , but I had a roo that I just wasn't prepared to cull. An old farm cocky told me to scoop him up everytime I entered the pen and carry him around while I feed the others. The theory is , he either realizes that you are higher in the pecking order than he is, or he gets sick of your cuddles and avoids you like the plague. My little guy simply gave up. All of my other Roos have been hand reared and are real gentlemen. I'm not saying it will work for everyone , but it might be worth a try. The sussex are a lovely breed. My coro's pick up their petticoats and come running, as soon as they see me.

Thanks a lot for that. Actually I did just what you suggested with one of them who charged at me just a few days ago, and I just cuddled him and punished him with about 30 minutes of very close cuddles, covered his head etc. and yes he does now just avoid me like the plague when I think of it!! They are so tiny, and these little guys are just so FAT!

It's not going to work for all of them. I was feeding my friends barnevelder s while he was interstate. One of the Roos was just mean. Even when I picked him up he pecked at me. Unfortunately the owner had been advised to kick him everytime he was aggressive . In my opinion this just makes them more aggressive . So as I said my method might not work on all Roos, but its definitely worth a try.
