LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I got tricked by our Serama hen. She made me believe she was going broody 🤣
Since I've started keeping everyone locked up the past couple days, she's been sitting in the nesting box for most of the day.
I had gotten excited thinking that I'd be able to get some bantam chicks from a breeder nearby to give her.

This cockerel has turned out really nice :)

Not going to breed him until next year, but I’m excited to see what he will produce. Thank you!

I think that’s a very sound choice, but I’d love to hear your reasoning behind it!

The first thing that comes to my mind is that with serama being a vulnerable breed, you wouldn’t want to pass on genes that while gorgeous, cause heart attacks or sudden deaths at a year old.
Or does it have more to do with waiting to see if he keeps this amazing structure, and doesn’t break down soon after 18 months of age?

This could all be totally irrelevant, as I’m no experienced breeder
