We're glad to have you.

I'm sorry that the hatch didn't go well. Hopefully, the next one is more successful! Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome everyone, much appreciated.

We got up this morning (day 24) to meet one hatched chick, and another pipped - soon to be hatching by the looks. And another has pipped this morning too! All very exciting, if a few days 'late'.

Turns out the incubator has been quite a bit cooler than we thought, which may have delayed the hatch. Live and learn.

This first group are a cross between a silky rooster we were given whom the kids named "Roger" and some of our ordinary Isa Brown laying hens. Should be an interesting outcome. A few of the eggs were Australorps from a friend's flock, at this stage I have a little yellow fluffy chick and a half a chick (!!) that looks the same. So time will tell what these guys are - are Australorp chicks born black or do only go black when they feather up?

Next up I have some more of Roger's cross bred eggs & a batch of Silver Spangled Hamburgs to go in. As soon as this first group finish up!!! Or when my new incubator turns up, the race is on to see which happens first!!
