G'day, I'm Anne from a little country town in Western Australia. Literally little, as in 3000 people! My husband and I moved here 4 years ago from our capital city, Perth, which is an hour away, so we could be on an acre and enjoy some peace and quiet (Our children moved out of home in Perth so we quickly sold up before they could move back in again!!) I have 2 King Charles Cavaliers who are 8&9 years old and 5 weeks ago, I got 6 silver laced wyandotte chicks and 4 gold laced wyandotte chicks. My dogs have never been around chickens and have a penchant for chasing birds so I thought by getting chicks, the dogs would watch them grow up and be less inclined to chase them, so far, so good. The chicks spent their first 4 weeks here in a brooder inside at night and in a small cage outside during the day when the weather permitted. Last weekend, I transferred the chicks inside the brooder to their outside coop, open
ed the brooder door and kept them locked in the coop until yesterday when I opened the door and let them free range in the garden with me and the dogs. My new schedule revolves around my chickens, 8am is coffee time with the 'girls', 5pm is wine time with the 'girls' and the time between is catch up time with the 'girls' seriously, they're my favourite waste of time. When I'm not chit-chatting with the 'girls', I'm gardening, renovating, looking after my granddog, Lilly, the Labrador, catching up with my 2 adult daughters or simply enjoying the serenity. I chose Wyandottes because they're so pretty to look at, I fell in love with them at first sight 5 years ago and couldn't wait until I got set up with my own brood.
!
and welcome to BYC! Your life Down Under with your "girls," your doggies and your family sounds like heaven! We hope you'll come here often to share it with us. I love Wyandottes too and hope to have some, someday soon!
