(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Total newbie. Got them at 1-2 weeks on September 1.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Three - Xena, Buffy, Daeny (Daenerys)
(3) What breeds do you have?
The black one is likely an Australorp, not sure about the other two.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They can be pretty cute. I didn't expect chicks to chirp like birds. Or want to climb on you. They feel safe when I'm in the yard and follow me around. I'm getting a kick out of McGuyvering stuff for them. I like sustainable living and chickens are a step in the right direction.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I don't have time for hobbies. I don't have time for chickens! But my son wanted to take them home so we did. I work full time. I'm a full time single mum. I spend too much time on housework. I want to show my son there's more to life than video games and TV. He's only 3.5.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
It's just my son and I. We have two cats, Luke and Leia, and the three pullets. I'm a software engineer and I work from home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have spent far too much time googling things and BYC comes up a lot. I was finding it difficult to find information about smaller spaces and how to do it basically. So I made an account to create a post.
I've attached a picture of my dodgy setup at the moment. The "run" I bought to go with the coop is really too damn small to be considered a chicken run. So at least they need a shady area, and protection from rain. It's a work in progress!
