We are living in Spokane, WA and are getting set up and ready to get some new chickens here some time in April or May (we're only allowed 3). I am trying to do my due diligence before I get them, so I've been reading a lot through the site and just gathering information (also from my brother, who happened to tell me about this site - Thanks big bro!).

Wondering if anyone has any specific Eastern WA suggestions/cautions/etc? I have an almost 5 yr old son who will be helping me, so we're thinking the Orpingtons are the best choice.

Anywho, it's good to have so many threads to read and learn from!!

Hi there,

and welcome to BYC!

You might want to connect with others in your state in the WA thread....

Orpingtons, the Buff Orpingtons or the Black Australorps are a great bird to keep. They are great layers, very docile and kid friendly, they are affectionate and very hardy over all. My girls follow me around like drooling puppies looking for goodies or a nice warm lap to sit on. Huge lap babies!

Good luck with your new chicken adventures!
