geese cross breeds Embden x Landes possibility

Sorry have been very busy!

Sounds good, separate enclosures should do the trick and the lone gosling should be separated for its own safety. It's a chance for you to tame it if it's still young enough!

When are you getting the geese?

per the agreement we are taking the 6 y old goose and 2y old gander this Sunday afternoon, per the gps the transport should takes max 60 minutes. both will have separate cages. and we are taking only these two for now. the gosling and ducks are about to be discussed later and possibly we will stick to these two as we are going to have 1+4 already. so we need to separate only the two newcomers, but we are afraid that later when we try to put them together they could harm the ducks and some of 'em are precious to us due to their genetics as it is rare to find something else then ordinary pekin or rouen.
I have several pics with that one, she is mostly tame letting herself pet, the other same looking is tame only sometimes and the third the "whiter one" was tamable only in winter but they all come close to us anytime, just not letting pet themselves.

hello, "babies" are home, we brought them home today. they have separate enclosure for now, Ladies came for a visit but they are separated by the fence.
they were calm and silent all way home and now when they were checking around their new place.
how long we should keep them separated before we shall remove the fence between them? should we release them to other are that is neutral for both groups?
per the first comparison the emdens are really bigger, our landes are more compact, thick shorter neck. as the female is older mature she has larger body, the male is tall with long neck and upstraight body. both have neck thin but longer than our landes.

Nice birds! In 2 weeks you can remove the fencing and let them roam free together. The female Embden will probably be the dominant female but you'll see.

If the Landes are calm they should get on fine once roaming together.

hello, we did it today, after five days, I got broom ready for selfdefence or in emergency, but it was great how what happened.
yesterday we removed the fence between 3 landes geese and 4 ducks letting them meet closer the rest of younger ducks, no attacks everything was fine.
today as i have seen the behavior of the 3 geese and the two new i tried to release them to the yard. Gander walked the first and geese followed. 3 landes ladies approached to tell 'em we are the rulers here, Gander showed them in a moment that it is gonna change now. he just grapped a wing one of them but that was all. I was checking the situation if they gonna attack someone, but nothing. everything was fine, i've checked several times today and all is ok.
when there was some food delivered, green or apples two wites are still on their own,
3 landes too. i hope they will merge soon.

btw i have a question for spring if we are gonna get goslings from these 4 females how could we tell these are pure emdens and these are cross to landes? as landes should have gray females and white males, the white males from landes mothers could look like emdens from the emdens females. I'm asking cause we might sell the pure emdesn for more than the cross.

Sounds like it went well! The flock shouldn't have any problems from now on.

To answer your question: The Landes crosses that turn out white will always have a bunch of grey, black, brown or lavender feathers amongst the white whereas pure Embdens will be pure white with no other colours.

Embden goslings are auto-sexing with light coloured males and dark females but if a light gosling ends up female and a dark turns to be male they will be Landes crosses.

I'll be here for you when spring arrives anyway so I'll be helping you.

thank you for your answer once again. to update the current status all waterflow are together older and younger ducks and all 5 geese in one area to share all source of water and feed. only fight was actually when the emdens first entered the area withtout any fence but it was over sooner than it begun.
As I've mentioned the gander showed his power and the 3 landes lost their rule over othe are instantly. currently after several days if there is something like green food two emdens (gander and goose) are the top who take their rights to it, after there are 3 landes females and the ducks follows after.
i just spoke today to my neighbour she is 74 years old and kept geese several years ago when she was much younger, she's afraid that the gander will still take care and mate only with the emden geese and not with any other of landes. I know there are like half year till eggs so is there anything we need to do so the gander will take all 4 females at the same way? i've heard that if you want to add a new female to the flock you need to remove the male and let the girls make their pecking order and once it is done add the male. so should we remove the male for some time to let the girls form their bonds together and then put the gander back to the flock ?
thank you for your support for spring, i cant wait for it to see the eggs and possible goslings. :)

Trust me a gander will not mate with just 1 female if he has 3 other females that are willing to mate too.

I would say it would almost be impossible that he wouldn't mate with them.

Since the female Embden is a lot older she would most likely stay the dominant gal.

Also younger female geese mate earlier in the year whereas older female geese wait longer. So your gander will for sure be mating with your Landes before the Embden female.

Did you get the Embden gosling?

oou, thats a new for me, as my elder neighbour lady was telling me the other day, if he the gander would mate with the girls, but as we are noticing, they are still more and more together, they have no other choice just to stick to the only man that is available. same as our ducks from last yer, as their drake is gone they are following a new man available.

we did not get the other gosling, we don't need to now as we have these, owner thought he got one emden only, seems he got two, but several of his golsings got droppy wings or angel wings issues so he is trying to fix them to remove the problems, and such a young goose would be scared from our flock and would make things more complicated. haveing 1+4 is more then enough for us now.

just came to my mind, landes ladies were broody all 3 of 'em, is emden broody too? I read somewhere that they are not going to be broody and previous owner used artifical incubaton to get the goslings. the fact that we are having 4 females lead us to redesign the nesting shed as it contain only 3 nests to create another one for the fourth lady :)

as we had 3 landes two were laying eggs to one nest and the third to the other, once the first went broody the other one was forced to lay to the other nest with the previous, when that one went broody too, she was alone without a nest, we created the 3rd nest and put some eggs in it, it was so interesting, strange and cute at the same cause as soon as we finished it, fursnished it with straw and eggs, she entered and sat there not even waiting for us to take our tools away from the shed. so cute :)
last week before hatching ladies swapped the nests but only two goslings hatched due to our incorrect identification of a gander so only first eggs were fertile. and two goslings were raised with 3 mothers.

i've seen a video where all the females were sitting togethere in separate nests in one room and a gander was inside guarding all of 'em making a lot of noise when anyone entered or anything happened. will see how it will be as we had no gander during hatching.
