Geese + Ducks together?

We currently have them in a larrrrge dog kennel from 10pm-7am. We have to either carry them up the stairs (like 12 stairs) to where this kennel is located- but Chuck has taught himself how to walk the stairs. Sarah is a diva and stands at the bottom and waits for me to pick her and carry her up. LOL I do not let them walk down the stairs though- I hand carry each one down every morning. They totally let me and no freaking out. We'll see how the duck coop trial goes tonight!

If your duck coop is large enough to build a stall with a door on the front I would do that. Seeing as you have africans use a sheet of plywood coming off the wall of the building, and half a sheet across the front (framed of course to make secure). A basic rectangular frame of 2x4's to fit the 4x8' plywood will create a half wall and is all you need to contain them. Then enclose the front and make a gate/door to shut them in their stall over night. This space makes a good broody duck, or hospital stall if you choose to build a goose building down the road and add additional geese.

3 geese and 3 ducks. The love each other and fly together. The geese are always complaining that the ducks mess up their formations. Ironically the pig is the leader when they are on the ground.

I have my ducks, geese and chickens together right now. There is a barrier in the middle of the coop (which is about 15X9') in the hopes that the geese will stay in the front area and allow the chickens and muscovy hens to roost in the back. I used branches to block off the "door" that is in the middle that I go through but the geese keep getting back there anyway.

Which explains why I was woken up at 3 am by chickens clucking unhappily. ( I put a baby monitor in the coop). So, I will be reconfiguring that latter this morning but I am tired.

When we had just two geese, we did something like what Celtic said, but different. Our original coop consists of a child's 6x6 cedar playhouse with an 8 x 8 room addition on the side. The geese claimed the playhouse and the ducks the other section. The playhouse is large enough to comfortably house a trio at night.
Both the playhouse and the larger section have their own doors and their is a doorway between the two sections. During breeding season, we secure a piece of wire across the door between the duck and goose sides that I can open like a flap to get the eggs (if I go through the playhouse door it is on my hands and knees). The ducks and geese can still see each other and have ventilation, but they cannot get to each other. Once breeding season is over the wire comes out and everybody is friends again.
This is our original house.

This year we are either building on to the back of the large section of this building or putting up another building behind it for the geese. My original pair will retain their house, but all the other breeding pairs will move to the new building. The non-breeders will move to our other duck/goose coop and the gate between the fields will be kept shut. They will complain, but each house has a pond, so they will get over it.

Good luck with your housing ZooWee!

We haven't been doing this very long, so I'm sure there are others who can give advice, however I would like to tell you about our experience. We got goslings and ducklings at the same time, brooded them together and kept them in the same pasture and house. Mostly this is working out fine, except at one point when the young drakes were getting frisky and wanting to breed the ducks, one of the ganders would pick up the duck -- not the drake--- and throw them. One of the ducks was hurt badly enough that she died within a few minutes of this happening. --- we separated them through the winter, put them back on pasture together, and now that breeding season is past, have them back together. The geese that did not have goslings are in with a small group of ducks at night (for guarding). They seem to be getting along most of the time now. No more tradgedies this year, but the ganders still seem to get quite aggitated when the ducks are mating.

Night #1 was noisy. But everyone survived. The geese are pushy for sure. Night #2 underway. I will update this thread. Maybe someone else will find it useful in future searches. :)

I sectioned off part of the coop and added a new stall for the geese,,was a tempoaray thing till I saw how awesome it worked out last night!!
I was building a goosehouse out of pallets, but having a heck of a time , so it was getting dark and the 2 geese had to sleep somewhere safe for the night. I banged up a stall (out of pallets) and threw on a gate,,bam! I have a perfect place for them now,,and I can put away all my tools for the house I WAS going to build! :)) the floor is wood,so I will lay down a thick layer of shavings and scoop out the droppings daily..:)
