Geese filling their pool with rocks?!

Mine would put rocks in their pool if they could. Instead they pick up rocks and put them in the downspout drain pan of the gutter. They also like to pick up hay that has fallen on the ground from feeding the horses and make piles. They are very industrious.

I was noticing my goose doing this the other day, she would pick up sticks, leaves etc and kinda lay them around her feet. it's cute, I have never seen my gander do anything like that though.

I love this! I watch the girls do it- sticks on one side, leaves on the other. Its like a pre-cursor to nesting.
I find rocks and toys in the pools all the time.
My ducks will put rocks in their feed troughs and also their water buckets. I was thinking this was probably something to do with nesting, she was so cute the way she so carefully picked up the stick or leaf and laid

it down in little piles

Mine have done this from time to time but it's in their two rubber water pans in their run that I find the rocks, never their pool. yesterday I found they had completely ripped out every branch from three dead lavendar bushes in their yard. The bushes died over last winter (don't know why though) and my pair have kindly completed the root pulling for me. I thanked them hardily and threw all the roots into the woods while they watched.

Some of their favorite toys are buckets with handles, little kids plastic crib toy with a moving door, plastic water bottles (no lids), work gloves (if I am silly enough to leave them within their reach they are toast the next time I see them with all the finger tips chewed open), plastic sheeting (don't ask), large plastic bowls and lastly small sticks. They will pick the sticks up and carry them all around the yard like a puppy lol

even running from me if I dare to TRY to take them away.

Love these two, they are now five months old.

Mine love to play with things. They both put rocks in the pool. Pretty much any thing that could be a toy they will play with. Shovels, pots, twigs, rocks, fencing, rope, etc. As long as they can get it in their mouth they will play with it. Both of mine also play with nest materials. When the female goose sets on my ducks eggs and the gander sees her playing mommy he then will also play with nest materials. I have watched him pick up a piece of hay set it at his feet take a step and pick up another piece only to lay that one at his feet, then repeating. I have watched him go about ten feet, with each step placing another one at his feet. He coos softly as he does it stopping now and then to look at his girl then back to placing another piece of straw at his feet and taking a step. The female watches him adoringly as she sit on the duck eggs. Its really quite sweet. And yes I am sure of their genders.
