only seasonally layers- right? my toulouse goose that is, with am embden mate

i'm asking b/c my mean ol son of a gun gander was just out there beating the crap out of my goofy old bumblefooted hen! i saved her (thanks dogs!) and ran him off to the pond but he ripped a lot of her feathers out. ***picture him running to the pond, a mouthful of feathers visible as he turned to look over his shoulder at me and Dog#1 were in hot pursuit! ***

he only gets after that one hen and only when his lady friend is laying or brooding.. i havent seen any eggs but she is out roaming around everywhere during the day

help - do i need to confine her to she will set a proper nest or is this a fluke??

yikes - here he comes up from the pond - 'com on dogs lets round him up!

It must be a fluke. I can't imagine her going broody this late in the year while the days are shortnening.

And you officially have the meanest gander here! Is his name Outlaw? [IMG]

My Seb, Zeena has made an out door nest and laid 2 or 3 INFERTILE eggs the last two years-who knows what they're thinking. Maybe it's the short days mimicking Spring

My gander is starting to do this again as well. He's lucky I love em so much...It lasts a couple of weeks...I am figuring that is why my tom is doing the same thing towards us...I'm about to put the 2 in a pen together... [IMG]

that, friend, would be an ultimate fight! my gander and that mean tom scream at each other thru the fence. together they would cause a dust up that would bring out the sheriff!

thanks for the replies everyone - i'll write it off to a fluke but he is definitely in jail for the next couple of days!

and yes its a good thing that i love that ol' galoot or his days would be numbered.... i think i love him BECAUSE he is such a piece of work.
