Geese or ducks?

My opinion is that all ducks are decent... they won't try to kill you. with geese, some are nice (like dogs?) and some want to eat your kidneys... I have a goose who would rather bite me into pieces than anything else... unless I am offering up pancakes... he's a sucker for pancakes...

I haven't had either but brought home 2 two-day old geese today. I have chickens and kinda wanted ducks too, but from what a lot of folks say ducks can be kinda messy as in water everywhere, so I am trying out geese first, these 2 are just cute as can be, although the month-old chicks that I put them in with think that they are scary monsters... LOL

I vote geese, but that is only because I have never had ducks before!

I just had to say I LOVE your avi.

Anyway, I've never kept either personally, but in my (limited) experiance...it depends on if you're going to have a pair (as in male and female) and how social you want to be with them. I have a pair of mallards nesting by my house and haven't been attacked by the drake yet (they chose to be close, and I can't completely avoid being in their area to come and go). I have, however, been run off by ganders this time of the year when venturing too close to nests I wasn't aware of. However, my fav animals to visit on the farm by my aunt and uncles (in non-breeding season) were the geese. I'm willing to bet that drakes can get a little touchy this time of the year too, but given the size difference, I'd imagine the pain they can inflict is a good bit different. I would say that you should research individual breeds of each and their characteristics, as different breeds will have totally different personalities within both species (and of course, they are all individuals too).
