I am trying to decide the breed that would be best for my family and I would love input from those that already have geese....My daughter(14) and I are very involved with our animals and we are looking for a breed that would enjoy our company as much as we will enjoy theirs.I have been told it is all in how they are raised and I am aware of that but are there some breeds that tend to be friendlier then others or aggressive breeds I should stay away from?

i have grey toulouse and they are so sweet its how you raise the babies .. geese during mating and egg laying they are going to be protective of theyre nest and surrounding. but like i said its all in how you raise them and how much attecntion you can give them.

I agree with Toulouse. They are amazing and so sweet.

Roman Tufted - small, quiet, friendly, calm. I love watching mine - they bring me peace! You'll love geese - I hope they bring you as much joy as mine bring me. Happy Shopping...let us know what breed/breeds you and your daughter decide on.

I have some embdens. The one that was raised by me from a baby is pretty nice, of course he's being a butthead now since it's breeding season. He is mostly all 'talk', he has yet to actually attack anyone. He hates my son (5 y/o) and still hasn't attacked. Pilgrims, sebastapols, and americans are all supposedly docile breeds. I had an american female that was not mean at all, also raised from a baby by me. She did get to where she wasn't too keen on being close to me though, which I hated. She acted like she had been bought as an adult

Pretty much any breed you get is going to be all right if you raise them from babies. Certain breeds do tend to be more aggressive than others (I've heard both embden and toulouse are pretty aggressive breeds), just like certain one seem to be louder than others (chinese and africans). It all boils down to what you want in a goose (size, personality, etc), and what breed best fits your needs

Does anyone have Sebastopol geese?? I won 3 Sebastopol geese in a byc auction and they are now on day 6 in my bator but I have been told geese are very hard to hatch so I am hoping and praying but trying not to get my hopes to high....We mainly want geese as pets,if I could sell their eggs or goslings that would be a plus but not needed.A breed that is not very aggressive nor very loud that is appealing to the eye would be the best match....if my neighbor has a nice view they will be less likely to fall over when they see I have added geese to my little but growing crew.

From everything I have read, sebastopol, pilgrims & buffs are known as some of the easiest going geese. I have seen many others from different breeds that were pretty laid back, but I think it is also a personality thing.
