Hello folks,

Last week I posted about two blood spots in a couple of dropping on the coop floor. I decided not to worry about it, but keep a close eye on what's going on. This morning I went out to open their door and there was a somewhat large dropping that was very gelatin-like. Has anyone seen this before? I have 7 pullets 17 weeks old. one of them, a golden comet, has a bright red comb and waddle, could it have been her first attempt at an egg? Before they start producing, do they have feeble attempts at laying? Boy, so much to learn with these little ladies. Any advice would help

Hi, thanks for the reply. One blood spot was part of a dropping, the other was alone and tiny. I haven't seen any other blood since, but I'll go out there now and take a closer look (it was kind of dark when I went out this AM)

Yes, I fed medicated starter for 12 weeks, then went to an organic grower/finisher. Should I start on layer now, or stay on the grower and supply oyster shell?

I'm attaching link a couple of pics of a couple of droppings I just found out there. Also is one of the pullet in question.

I hope they're all ok. After raising them to this point, it would be awful to have something go wrong.

Thanks, again, Lynne. I appreciate it. Please comment on the pics of the droppings.

Hello again. It seems my hen is getting worse. She is just standing watching the other hens roam around and eat bugs. She stands with her eyes closed. Her crop feels ok, kind of soft and squishy. I examined her to see if she's eggbound, but don't really know what I'm checking for. She doesn't have a bad odor, her eyes are clear and nothing coming from her nostrils. Poor thing she doesn't seem very happy. Folks, please respond if you have ANY ideas.

This backyard chickening thing is not for me, I've decided.

Hi, can you tell me what you base that on though? Can she really have it after having eaten only medicated starter for 3 months?

I am basing it on droppings and your description of how she is acting. As for the medicated food, I don't know. I just know that's what I would do. The only real way of getting an accurate diagnoses is taking her to a vet.

Good Luck!

eta- I do know that there are many different types of cocci. I don't know if med feed covers all of them. I also know that not everything is 100%. You know what I mean?

Again, best of luck!

Thanks again. What's the best way to treat for that? And, do I treat all of them?
