Gem White

Husband just bought shavings called "Gem White", which are 80% kiln dried western hemlock (not related to poisonous hemlock) and 20 % douglas fir. It was recommended by the "chicken guy" at Tractor Supply. IS it safe for my new chicks? Any information welcomed!!
