Sapphire Gem thread!!!!

Oh yea you’d better get some this year! We just lost our first then this year, right before Xmas and now we only have 4 left. I’m wanting more also, as we only have 3 our original flock (2022) plus Ravioli, but better half says we can’t get more until we figure out if we’re moving or not :hitall those breeds are on my wish list, too, though! I keep telling myself to be patient and I’ll be able to buy a lot when we move, but it’s hard.
Oh no! I'm so sorry about your chicken. Yes, listen to your gut. If you be patient, if/once you move, you will be able to go buy lots of chickies of different breeds and scroll all day long on a chick hatchery site deciding what you want to get.. 🤣 That's literally my dream🥲 If you need some breed suggestions, don't hesitate to create a thread and ask:) That's what I did lol!

Isn’t that all of our dream?!? Ugh some day lol oh I will definitely need to get some breed suggestions, although I would love to give any good homes, ofc 😊

Oh no I'm so sorry about your Sapphire gems!😢 I think they are def susceptible to egg-laying issues and a lot of other problems especially because they are very large, stocky hens. One of my Sapphire gem hens, Gert, she lays giant eggs, sometimes double yolkers, so she could get egg bound at any point in the future sadly☹️ That's probably the only bad thing about the breed in my opinion.

Thankfully, the 4th one survived having an egg break inside her. She's almost three years old and is doing great.

I was musing at how rare it is for me to have not one, but 2 wonderful roosters after raising and culling so many jerks over the years. It just dawned on me that it must be because their mother is a precious Sapphire Gem. The other part is Ameraucana.

He is a very handsome boy! He has the roundness that my roo does, lol! His feathers are stunning!

I thought we had a Sapphire Gem, as in the picture, but the more I read they usually (always?) lay brown. I believe these eggs (at each end) are considered green. I think the S Sky has a crest.
She was one of the first we hatched from a broody and she/Hazel will be 2 the beginning of June and is laying about 5 a week. Her comb and wattles are larger now.

Woah! Beautiful eggs! I love the darker green speckles. Your girl there is beautiful as well! I like her reddish-copper leakage on her neck if I am seeing that correctly.:) :love
