Sapphire Gem thread!!!!

Hey all!
I couldn't find any sapphire gem threads, so I decided to make one!

The sapphire gem, aka the blue sapphire or the sapphire blue, are a hybrid consisting of a blue plymouth rock and a barred rock that originated in the Czech Republic.
Sapphire gems have definitely gained in popularity over the years, one reason being that they are sex-linked, which means that you can tell the sex of the chick just by it's coloring; female sapphire gem chicks are dark gray with dark legs, while the male chicks are light gray with a white dot on their head and yellow legs. Sex-linked hybrids are a good choice if you want the gender of your chick guaranteed. As most of us already know, with most chicken breeds you have to wait until they are several weeks old until they start showing signs of being a hen or rooster (a pullet will start laying, and a cockerel will start trying to crow.) Other reasons why they are very popular in the chicken community is because sapphire gems have great egg production and they are typically very friendly.

3. What's your favorite "trait" of your sapphire gem(s)? (e.g. their egg laying, their temperament, etc.)

Hey guys! Cool thread. I'm trying to find out what breed this chicken is, Pinky our blind hen (see pics). I was told somewhere that she is a Sapphire Gem, someone else said she's a Leghorn mix... just curious if you could ID her?

Pinky might actually be part cream legbar.

As in when you breed two sapphire gems together you won’t always get sapphire gem offspring.

A great example of this is Prudence. Her parents are Gert and Ledo!!!

Hi I bought 3 from rural king 17 weeks ago, and hope these are true sapphire gems. I am new to chicken keeping so learning alot as I go.
I love them and would definetly recommend them. I got them for eggs and pets, but no eggs yet. Still early I think. They don't mind being picked up and the light gray one is the friendliest, but pecks hard sometimes. You say they are sex linked should I know by now if I have a rooster? None of mine had white dots on their head, but Def. Color differences. Here are my 3.
