Gender and breed help

I think its a pullet, for the breed I think its a Black Sex link.
I see a lot of brown when I zoom in on those pictures. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't think it's a Black Sexlink.

I think it's more likely to be some breed with a black-and-brown pattern in the feathers-- maybe "partridge" color or something like that.

I found a better picture that may help with the breed. I also have another I may as well ask about. it’s supposed to be a speckled Sussex pullet but now I’m not sure.

The dark brown one has me puzzled. I think it's female, and I think it's going to look really pretty when it grows up, but I'm drawing a blank on possible breeds.

Where did you get the chicks? Sometimes that helps figure out what they might be.

I think it does look like a Speckled Sussex. But I'm not sure on the gender-- a few more weeks should make that clear, one way or the other.

You could order pullets from a hatchery and do much better. It's still possible to get a cockerel, but so much less likely.
You have straight run chicks, and a less than truthful (or ignorant) seller.
Also, from a hatchery you can get Marek's vaccinated chicks, which need to be isolated from your coop and chicks, for two weeks, so they can develop the protection offered by the vaccinations.

All boys...
I've ordered from Cackle and Murray McMurray, and been happy with both. If you live within driving distance to a hatchery, check them out, and ask here.
It depends on what breeds you want, and what's available. This is not the best time, it's late in the season. Your local feed stores might have chicks, although they won't be vaccinated, and mixups are very common in those chick bins. More cockerels, wrong breeds, whatever.
