We ordered a straight run from a hatchery and have 50 birds of various breeds. I have many of them narrowed down, but I'd appreciate some input from the "experts" here. They are 2 months old.

PM me the breed list, and I'll tell you which ones are which as soon as I can with a 95% guarentee!

I have already helped a person out doing it this way, it makes it easier on myself, with satisfaction for the other...
Hello and welcome to BYC!

12 - production red pullet
13 - production red
14 - buff cochin pullet
15 - EE cockerel
16 - white wyanotte
17 - WCB polish, pullet?
18 - EE cockerel
19 - BR cockerel
20 - australorp pullet
21 - buff rock
22 - silver-spangled hamburg
23 - Silver-laced wyandotte cockerel
24 - barred rock pullet
25 - white Jersey giant
26 - speckled sussex cockerel

My gender guesses are probably all wrong, but I tried...

You have a LOT of cockerels.

The only definite pullets I see pictured are the EE pullet(s) in pics 8a, 8b, & 9c, the BR in pic 24, and the pretty white one in pic 25. The silver wyandotte (pic 5) could go either way.

The rest are roos. The combs & wattles on the rest of your chicks are too large to belong to 2 mo. old pullets. Especially take a look at the wattles - they shouldn't be developing at this age. The 2 EEs in pics 15 & 18 are also roos (EEs don't get wattles).

As for breeds; I see polish, Buff Orpington, Barred rock, Speckled Sussex, production red, SLW, Easter eggers, buff cochin, black australorp. Your white chicks with the rose comb are probably white wyandottes - I'm not sure what the pretty white pullet with the grey legs is. I don't know what the chick in #22 is either.

Thanks for the input! I ended up with a ton of buff rocks, and luckily they're easy to determine gender. I was hoping that the Sussex were female, but both of them look identical, so they must be both roos.

Two questions - how do you tell #25 is a J. Giant versus a white orpington? And any guesses on the gender of the Hamburg?

Thanks again. My order was from McMurray, and it appears I have a whole bunch of white wyandottes, both male and female.

The leg color on the white jersey giant. The hamburg is also a male. I agree with Arizona on the sexes of your birds. Looks like you got a good mix, just hope you wanted a lot of males...

If they are, indeed, two months old, the hamburg is definitely a male. He looks just like mine did at 8 weeks. Mine was nice, never came after us or anything, but we lost him at almost a year old.
