I asked about my chicks before. I wanted to share an update and see if any guesses have changed (in other words, still hoping I have more than 1 out of 5 girls, haha).

Chick #1 is Noel (the red one). Red Orp x Blue laced red Wyandotte. Original verdict: male. I’m still thinking male in looks, but personality wise this chick doesn’t act like a roo at all. What do you? And if you’re curious, here’s the post I made about him at 4 weeks. 35D292C0-1175-44CE-9400-F408CFC9A150.jpeg FF42F3E4-666B-4D71-80E5-634789514C26.jpeg EEF8D14B-843A-49BD-8269-8AC9C4100865.jpeg 4744A3A4-420C-4277-AD67-0CDB8748A276.jpeg 3EECC469-9BA9-4153-B81A-FC3C5D748609.jpeg

Chick #2 is Charcoal (black). Red Orp x best guess Rhode Island Blue mama. Charcoal acts all boy, and frequently spars with “presumed brothers” Smudge & Noel. Pretty sure he’s male. He’s about 10 days younger than Noel (red chick he’s sitting next to). He’s handsome and all attitude. His 4 week post.

Chick #3 is Smudge (white chick). I never posted him before because I think he’s sex-linked, and since he’s white he has to be a boy. Red Orp x silver laced Wyandotte. Most brazen chick of the bunch. Acts all boy. Pretty confident he’s male.

Chick #4 is Dent (blue chick) Red Orp x Blue rock (aka sapphire blue). Looks like a boy but acts like a lady. I’m fact Dent’s personality is identical to his mom’s. Currently the comb is all jacked up. I rarely see this chick spar with the others, but I guess someone got a hold of him. Dent’s original post.

Last chick is Ash (black w/ copper or gold). Ash is red Orp x lavender Orp and the only chick presently believed to be female (so if you say cockerel I’m gonna want to fight you , lol!). I still think she’s a she, and she is sweet and submissive and I think Charcoal & Smudge fight over her. Her comb is the only one that’s yellow of the clutch.

When you're listing breeds, and they all have one Red Orpington parent, I assume that means the Red Orp is the father?

If so, then Smudge and Dent have to be male (gold/silver sex linkage.)

Noel and Charcoal look male (comb & wattles).

I agree that Ash looks female.

The red Orp is the dad for all of them. Does that change the sex-link genes?
Red Orp father, Silver Laced Wyandotte mother = sexlinks (silver sons, gold daughters).

But if you switch the breeds around, a Silver Laced Wyandotte father will not produce sexlinks. His sons and daughters would both have silver.

How does Ash look now?

@RoostersAreAwesome Definitely a pullet. She even enjoys glamour shots, haha!
