Who is 'Pat' supposed to be?

Your right PortageGirl, he was doing his job.. FINALLY!

The specific guy has been gotten after ALL the time for not helping people, and he always gives my mom a hard time and some rude remarks about buying so much feed.

He probably thought he was doing his good deed for the day.

"Pat" is a character of indeterminate gender in a Saturday Night Live series of comedy skits.

I wouldn't worry about a couple people mistaking you for being female. My 5 year old boy sometimes still judges gender by hair length, and some people even as adults can't seem to get past that rather limited concept of gender. Pity them, and move on.

Drat.

I guess I don't look exactly manly either..

Oh well!

My recruiter must have thought it was funny that someone with hair as long as mine would want to join his beloved Marine Corps. It was the summer of 1969, my hair was way past my shoulders and I was a baby- faced 17 year old.

My first act in boot camp was to jump out of the cattle car I'd ridden in from the airport and land on a drill instructor's spit shined shoe. He punched me in my eye so hard that I was woozy as I watched my eye swell shut. He was screaming at us to get on the yellow footprints painted on the ground outside the receiving barracks. While we stood there in platoon formation, he wandered back and forth among us, telling us what maggots we were and talking very bad about our mothers and such.

I could sense him behind me and I could feel him breathing on my neck. All of a sudden, he jerked my head back by my hair and said to no one in particular "ok, which of you bas***s brought your girlfriend with you?" To which I replied "that's funny". It was pretty hard standing there at attention and watching my other eye swell shut too.

I'm pretty sure he knew that I wasn't really a girl. That was my first day in the United States Marine Corps and my life has never been the same.
