Chicken side-eye.

This other chick is only three and a half weeks old and came from the 'heritage breed' mixed bin at our local feed store. If you think it's a Roo break the news gently, I really love her (?) feathers!

The cochin is looking boy to me. Sad to say I hatched 3 in January that are all boys. The other looks like silver penciled wyandotte and maybe girl? Im not so good with the sex of wyandottes but I have a silver laced that the comb is redder and its getting wattles Mine is a little older about 4-5 weeks and I am pretty sure boy.

Suze how old are they?

I know that red comb is scary but that cochin *acts* like a pullet, I swear. She runs with her head down, is usually the first to get to scratch or new treats to eat and doesn't seem to care what's going on around her. We had an EE roo that we were very lucky to find a nice ranged home for (we're urban chicken farming here) and he was the only thing I was comparing her behaviour to. I know cochins can be famous for being hard to sex so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. :O

I am pretty sure the 1st on is a Cochin Male and would bet $ on it. The other one looks pullet but is too early to be sure.

I was in the same shoes as you are about a month ago. My veeeery favoritest cochin started growing a big honkin wattle right around week 3. I reasoned that the adults all have very red combs, so it could still possibly be a girl. Soot had very low carriage, was my favorite, and was the most sociable of the bunch. I was convinced girl!....... until he started crowing.

Luckily the lady who took him for her farm out in the country was very kind and didn't mention that I was clearly a crazywoman for crying over giving away my little Sootsie. She sends me updates on him every once in a while. Bless her.
