Hello all,
I am the proud owner of 8 RI Reds, have successfully raised them from 1 week (now 3.5 months). this forum has been a huge asset to most of my questions, but 2 remain a mystery.
1.) I built a 4 x 8 x 10 extension off of my existing shed, I put in a full size door, a window, roof vent, and a entry door for the girls that can be operated from outside the coop. Inside I built 5 consecutive nesting boxes that are 15w x 20 deep x 12h, I have lined the boxes with straw every other week (when I clean the coop out) and every time I go back to it I find the boxes with nothing in them but p**p. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I should point out that there is 2 different height roosting poles as well.
2.) I bought these 8 birds with the understanding that they were all girls.........1 of these girls seems a bit different than the others! I know this has been beaten to death on this site, can anyone shed a little light on the gender of this bird? See pics below.
