That is a total BUMMER!!!!!! Sorry to hear that. Looking forward to seeing the photos of those crossed Barnie birds.
 
Ah the two mottled ones are purely gorgeous, and the splash ones have gone to a new home already, they were snapped up by a local farmer friend of mine.
 
I do question the pure breeding or not. This is the latest pic of the one I held back aged 2 months now. Very black, with beetle green sheen on its back and would agree with you folks...its a roo. They had such different feathering and think the poor gal I bought the eggs from received stock sold to her as "pure Barnevelder". Frankly, would be ok with me... my purpose for hatching them was produce a chocolate colored egg layer

this slow feathering one now is getting the green sheen and pointed neck. Oh well, 2 other chicks hatched lately. If feather sexing is a possibility, they both are pullets. New chicks>>>>
