Hello!

Second time posting, these are the chicks that I confirmed to be mixed (found the breeder and they said that these could be olive egger x silkies)

They are about 8 weeks old now and I think one of these are a roo. Needed to confirm as we can't have them here.

Also as a first time chicken keeper I was told we shouldn't have them by themselves, should I get another chick around the same as soon as possible right now? I'm just worried that they may end up being another roo.

I think the first is a male due to the wider comb and wattles, the second looks like a pullet.

Disclaimer: I do not have Silkies, so wait for others to chime in.

I agree, first is most likely male with the very wide comb. The second has a straight comb but it looks pretty small so I think pullet.

Absolutely you need to get more chicks to keep your girl company. Do you have older chickens? If so, then you can integrate both of these chicks with your flock, and then in a few weeks, rehome the male, and the female should be fine with the rest of the flock. But if you don’t have other chickens, get several (4-5) more straight run chicks, or 2 sexed pullets. Always keep at least 3 chickens in case something happens to one, then you at least have two, and not one lonely chicken!

Regarding combs: they have different types of combs.

The wide one is either a rose comb or a walnut comb. Those kinds are always wide, no matter what sex the chicken is.
The narrow one is a single comb. Single combs are always skinnier than rose or walnut combs, no matter what sex the chicken is.

So comparing the combs is hard on these two.

As regards wattles, I agree that the one with big wattles is probably a male, and the one without big wattles is probably a female.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize they had different comb types. I just remember reading that Silkie cockerels tend to have wider combs than pullets, I guess that only applies if they're pure Silkies.

With silkie cockerels it's not just the width but the height of the comb. Pullets' combs are almost completely flat. Cockerels have an obvious bump to them. With this comb and wattles, your white silkie is likely a boy. He may have the start of streamers coming in but I'd wait a couple of weeks before you get rid of him just to be sure.
The patterned one is a pullet.
