Hi, I need help identifying the gender of this 6 months old chicken ☺️ any help is appreciated!
(I think it's a hen from the body shape since RIR hens can get huge wattle/comb... but my dad said it's a roo from the comb & wattles alone. Also, it's a rather aggressive bird since it tries to mount other hens - not sure if it's due to pecking order or mating, but this bird did try to square off the alpha rooster in the group).

A clearer photo would certainly help, however at 6 months old and going off of what can be seen, I'm leaning pullet... the comb and watties would be expected to be as they are at this age as the bird would be approaching the onset of lay if not already laying and you just haven't realized that's whose eggs you're finding. That being said, how long has this bird been sporting prominent brightly colored comb and wattles? If they developed at 12 weeks for example and have been that way since then that's another story compared to having just gotten larger and redder in the last say 8 weeks. Overall build and body shape is female, no visible male saddle or hackle feathering. Behavior that you note is not at all gender indicative as it is not unique strictly to males

Thank you for the replies!

Sorry for the unclear photo; I hope this photo (taken exactly 1 month ago) would be clearer... I'm currently away so not able to take better current pics. I will post newer ones once I get back home!

As per @Ol Grey Mare 's reply, yes this bird does have the prominent comb/wattles only in the last 4 weeks or so. And I've heard that some RIR hens can get rather aggressive so I've been thinking the behavior is due to that. As for @JedJackson 's reply, the mounting & squaring off behavior only happens in the last few days... this bird was pretty gentle with others for the first few months 🤔

Also, thanks to @nuthatched and @Sequoia Raven Bird Farms for the reply :)

Even though the photo is taken in shade, I can see a little shininess in the shoulder feathers. I think. If so, that's male specific feathering. I do think this is a late blooming cockerel. In addition to the other things already mentioned, the patchy color pattern looks male to me.

Let us know how it turns out.

Thank you @FrostRanger and @JedJackson ! I will keep a lookout and post an update when I get to confirm its gender - which is heavily leaning towards a rooster.

For now there's too many roos in the flock (3 confirmed roos excluding this bird + 6 confirmed hens), so I might sell/cull this one plus another roo if it turns out to be roo too :/
