6 and a half weeks old! Okay so I have done ALL OF THE RESEARCH. Hours upon hours of reading, looking at the birds, reading some more, and drawing my conclusions. From what I can tell, my Dark Brahmas are all pullets. None display any white patches on their wings, none have solid black feathers, all have a single row peacomb. All are completely and utterly lap chickens and are spoiled rotten. Now we come to the Barred Rocks.....pretty sure these chickens hate me. They run from me, they do this extremely unsettling chicken scream when I pick them up. One pinches the hell out of my arm when it's handled. Unless I have treats in my hand, then I'm the best thing next to sliced bread. They're like the damn cats of the chicken world. Two have me on the fence about gender, but only because their combs and waddles are reddening, but all have combs of relatively similar size (mother Clucker and Mochi have the pinker combs). None of them are showing light grey coloring, they're all primarily black. All have a black wash down their legs, although some are lighter. Let me reiterate...these 4 hate me
. Also, I've noticed that no one in the brooder is bossing anyone around. They're all very peaceful together. So peaceful that if I remove one or two from the group, they all get very vocal about it until those missing are returned.
