Gender Problems

Hi! We had just official determined that 1 out of 2 of our ducks is a drake. We also have 6 hens, and are concerned on how the drake will treat our other duck and hens. We haven’t seen too many aggressive actions from our drake but he is still only 4 months... is there any advice on how we can proceed, we are worried for the safety of all of our hens and ducks and do not want to get rid of our drake.

Yes we have only one drake and one duck along with 6 hens! Okay, thank you! We were just worried cause we have heard Drakes could kill our hens and our other duck

yes they can kill them the hens (as in chickens). Sometimes people call girl ducks hens and I think thats where the confusion was. You might want to get a few more girl ducks to keep the drake busy so he won't bother the chickens and give the one lone duck a break.

Oh, I thought they meant hen as in duck yes you should get 3 more ducks (female ducks are sometime called ducks) and keep your drake away from the chickens.

Have a plan B in mind. He may bond with the duck hen and breed only her - that may be okay (I have had bonded pairs where the hen was not overmated) or there may be problems. If he turns his attention to the chicken hens, that is a problem,

Well he might be just fine with a single Duck Hen. With chicken Hens you will need to probably separate him if he begins to mate the chickens.
