Heres the chick in question now at 6 weeks. She looks a little red but it's hot out today and shes been running around with her sisters. Not 100% sure what she is but high possibility of an olive egger (which makes sense because one of her sisters has muffs and 2 have the pea combs). 6 weeks old at least, may be a bit older. I know it can still be early but are you all leaning cockerel or pullet? And really weird, one wattle is bigger than the other 😂

Leaning towards later blooming cockerel as it has quite a bit of comb already, but it's early and I wouldn't make any decisions yet. You'll know in a few weeks :) Hoping for a pullet for you.
I keep going back and forth, mainly because this was one of my hens at 5 weeks. Everyone here kept telling me she was a cockerel. Glad I waited because she is most definitely a hen😂

Well, depending on the genetics (and who the parents are). I have seen some very cockerel-looking chicks turn out to be pullets. That's why I said not to make any decisions yet :p as it's not super obvious. You'll just have to wait and see I guess?

Yeah, this batch of chicks has been...very confusing. I originally bought barred rock. Definitely not barred rocks. No idea what they are but our closest guess is olive eggers. The father was a black copper maran. We will see. I'm guessing by 8-10 weeks I woud know for sure? Never ended up with a boy so I dont know when it becomes obvious.

This. I had a Plymouth Barred Rock that everyone said was a cockerel (10 years ago), but she turned out to be my first and best laying hen! She was an "odd duck" though, she preferred laying her eggs in a hardware cloth-bottomed open area especially when it was windy!

I'm a big fan of waiting longer and seeing if they finally lay an egg or definitely are a rooster! My PBR also crowed and was the "boss" of my little flock...she was the other gal's protector. I have read that in the absence of a rooster, sometimes a hen will take over the "job" and develop more male traits as well.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're all girls. This ones comb hasnt grown since and they're all now 8 1/2 weeks old. Here she was the day she turned 8 weeks.
