Genectically modified chickens!

I have two hens that I got from a science project at school. My school gets the eggs from lilydale (a place where they make chicken meat) and I realized that our chickens gain a lot more weight than usual. I believe that those chickens are breed to put on weight two times the it takes a normal chook too. So we now keep them on a very strict diet and hopefully they'll be fine, but I definitely think our school should change where they're getting their eggs from!

They're not genetically modified. No chickens raised for meat in the US are genetically modified or given steroids or hormones. They ARE intensively, selectively bred to gain weight at an amazing rate. They're usually called Cornish Cross, or CX for short. They're the backbone of the modern meat chicken industry and what everyone gets in the grocery store. They were bred with larger breasts specifically for the boneless skinless chicken breast fanatics.

I agree they're a poor choice for a school project to hatch out as they have pretty short life expectancies. It should be pretty easy for a school to get even barnyard mix fertile eggs with a Craigslist ad.

Also, no offense, but lilydale doesn't "make" chicken meat. They grow chickens and slaughter them.
