Also the black quail size bird is showing some silver in the hackle area similar to a silver birchen hen. It will be a good project to see what is truely hiding there. I assume that if I cross the daughter back to the father I have a better chance at exposing the Fm gene if there? Think I need to do some plugging into the calculator.

that´s correct, you will have 50% chance to produce FM males

only if the pullet has FM(black skin) and the percentage is reduced to 25% if the pullet has slate/green shanks and 0% if the pullet has yellow/white shanks

Stupid question. Can a chicken have black skin but not the full black meat, bones etc? When I checked those two black chicks their skin is black, just not in the mouth.

well that´s because they only have one dose of Fm, they are Fm/fm+(fm+ is the wild gene found on wild chickens, FM is a partial dominant gene)
