Genetic defect? I have a NAKED chick!

I've seen those in Israel, but if Mahonri has one out of the Icelandics, that is, well, weird. Featherless chickens just will always be wrong!

Well I just went out to take pics and now the 'naked' chick has taken a turn for the worse. I'm imagining that there must be something else seriously wrong with it.

It now seems to be gasping for air... I droppered mash and water into it, but I don't think it will make it. I guess this is God's way of culling those who shouldn't make it.

With it's brooder mate, the 'female' SFH with crooked toes. I can't put her in with the others in the grow out pen or they relentlessly pic on her toes.

Breeding those featherless birds for hot climate sounds great on paper but with no feathers, they have no protection from the sun. Guess their skin will be pre-cooked.

I mean sure you could keep them in the shade but how many chicken farmers in hot climates might be able to afford to shade an entire run?

Yup... it died at about 5PM. You are right, obviously something was never right with it.... and it was so lively until today.
Well that ends that chapter and I won't be worrying about a featherless breeding project.
