The author, who owned Conranch Hackle before it became Clearwater Hackle, was quite taken with the five colors that show up in the Cree color. He speculates it may he named after an Indian tribe; I wonder if it was taken from the the term Crele, used to describe a color of the standard Game Fowl.
Crele color Game Fowl look much like this coloration pattern. The barring he shows on the skins is quite distinct, however.
Originally I was told the three breeds used to create Hackle Fowl were the Araucauna, the Barred Rock and the Rhode Island Red. Since then, I found articles where other breeds were mentioned as progenitors, including, but not limited to: Sumatra, Blue Andalusians, Standard Game Fowl, Langshans, Malay, Shoku, and (possibly)Green Jungle Fowl.
It would be fascinating to be able to trace all these contributors and their percentages to the different strains people raise.

Here are photos of the CRELE color old English Game Fowl, which looks to have a similar color pattern with barring. You can see quite a bit of variation between dark and light ginger and red in these.

I am not sure of the context of all these, but I know a few:
EB - extended black, a genetic designation for chickens that have a black "foundation color", sometimes with modifiers on that. Popular colors that are often EB based are black, lavender, blue, splash, barred/cuckoo, mottled.
GH - Genetic Hackle
GHF - Genetic Hackle Fowl
FB - Facebook
NJ - New Jersey and PA - Pennsylvania -- both state names in the US

Sorry, we are dealing with a friend’s death, i have not been on for a few days. I will certainly go thru these and explain each one, I had not realized I did not explain the abbreviations, and yes, that would be a problem with all the acronyms! Give me a day or two to get things sorted out here, & I will do that. Oh, all these may be found in Brian Reeder’s two books on Form and Feathering of Domestic Poultry, I used his nomenclature. His books are extremely helpful on genetics of fowl. Just quickly- Genetic Hackle Fowl are GHF, Genetic Hackle HF. I will be back to help you with the rest!
