How do you know when to use barred vs. light barred? Based on some descriptions I've seen, I've debated using light barring for my Legbars.
I don't see how they could have light barring. From what I understand, light barring dilutes males to almost white. Legbar males are homozygous for barring, so if they had light barring all the black areas would be white. This is not the case.
You can see the distinct dark barring in the wing and tail of this legbar.

And this boy has a dark barred breast.

And the breed that introduced the barring gene into legbars was the Barred rock, which has normal barring.

I would be interested to hear why you think Legbars could have light barring instead of normal barring.

Oh maybe, hmmm..... I hope not, I've been having a blast working with y'all trying to make this thread actually something useful that could actually be helpful 😢
I bet they could do something for you like let you have that editing access or at least have someone edit it for you. Maybe they could let me because I have PFM? I am so sorry. :hugs

My Legbar seems close to white...

Compared to a Dominique...

Here's a 4-month-old son of the above Cream Legbar over a Dominique hen. He's the only one I have that's old enough to see feather pattern. I have 2-week-old chicks from the same cross, 2 pullets & 2 cockerels (I think), so it will be interesting to see if any of them show light barring.

(Edited to add the photo of Legbar cross. Thanks for the suggestion @FuzzyCritters
