Our chickens are GENIUSES! True story! We all thought someone else was closing up the chickens in their critter-proof pen for the night, and nobody actually did. It’s been dark for quite a while, and chickens go to sleep as soon as it’s dark. So we had no idea what we were hearing when something started banging on our sliding door. We went to check and were astonished to find Constance Chicken standing there, complaining. I looked some more and discovered that ALL the chickens were out strolling the sidewalk. MOST unusual chicken behavior, so I checked the coop. There is a possum in there! Our brilliant chickens knew to leave when a predator came in, and knocked on the door to let us know that things were all wrong in chicken world.

Nobody was injured. Everyone is safely closed in now.

How did the possum get in? Best to keep them out of the coop/run!
Oh, it was just plain old stupidity. We are at maximum stress/chaos in our household because of a newly diagnosed juvenile diabetic and all the rapid lifestyle change and learning curve and sleep deprivation. Everyone thought someone else had closed up the coop... but nobody had done it. It was wide open for the possum to saunter in. We will, of course, be more careful!!

I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Here's an idea. Remember those clean/dirty magnets people used to have for their dishwashers?
Put one of the kids to work on a tiny craft project today.
Have them make a sign to hang in a string on your backdoor or somewhere else you'll all see it.
Locked up/ NOT locked up or something along those lines.
You got so lucky last night, might not happen again.
