Hello! My 7 year old Bard Rock Hen named Gerri has a swollen red butt and is clearly lethargic/depressed. I am thinking maybe vent gleet or egg-bound? I have no idea. Photo below. What do y'all think? She was extra messy around her vent so we gave her a bath and I took a photo I appreciate any feedback:

Thanks so much,

The redness, swelling and inflammation is caused by urates in feces scalding her skin.
It's a good thing you bathed her.
Apply Nu-Stock as needed to the area until healed. Wear disposable gloves when applying it. Shake the tube well. It should be in the equine section at a feed store.

I have seen such big enlarged red bottoms from hens who had either internal laying egg masses inside, or ascites (water belly,) related to reproductive disorders or liver disease. What color are the urates in her droppings? If they are yellow instead of white, that usually confirms it. Since her bottom is very enlarged, her droppings are going to hit that area as they drop. It would be good to keep her bottom clean, and the Nustock can help heal her.
