I own chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, and duck. Would it be a bad idea to raise a pair of pheasants with that whole mixture of birds? Or do they have special needs and requirements?
I thought it would be cool to have some because I know a woman who hatches them and would sell me a male and female for cheap price.

I am sure Tony will chime in. He is the best source of detailed info, but you do not want to raise pheasants in close proximity to the chickens, and, yes, they do have special needs.

You rang? What breed are you thinking on getting? As Greymare said, they need to be away from chickens.Pheasants can get diseases from chickens and they cannot handle like a chicken does, over time they will die for no apparent reason.Their pen has to be covered and perches at heights that predators cannot reach down and grab them form the top, shrubs are good hiding place for them and put all feed in bowls don't just throw it on the ground.Any questions feel free to ask.
In N.H.,Tony.

tony u crazy peter has had his ring necks in with the chickens for about seven years and they are fine

Sometimes you get lucky...... Most times you don't..... Why risk it? It is well known that chickens can carry many illnesses that would kill a less domesticated bird. I have 300 chickens..... I keep my pheasants seperate..... I may raise them as babies together on wire...but as soon as they get older they move to their own area. I've had turkey come down with blackhead from chickens... Won't risk it with my pheasants , they just don't have as strong a ammune system.
