Get Marek's Disease Vaccination

Thank you for the great information on the Merak's vaccine. I have one 5 month old girl that I believe has this disease. I will have her put down so she will not suffer. However, 3 days ago I purchased 9 new, day old chicks from the local farm supply store. I called and found that these babies were not vaccinated. I have them separate from the others of course, but now I need to vaccinate them and my other adult healthy girls. I am having a very hard time finding the vaccine so I can administer it myself. I feel confident in my ability to do this due to the fact that I am a paramedic.
I would appreciate any information on the purchase of these vaccines that you are able to share as soon as possible!
I NEVER want to see another one of my girls go through this awful disease!
Thank you,
Jeannie

I bought the Marek's vaccine from Jeffers pet supply. It comes in a large bottle, and can be removed (it's dry) and divided so you dont have to use it all at once. Vaccinating chicks is like vaccinating puppies, just move the feathers aside and pinch up a little skin. I used insulin syringes which are very small. Do adult birds as well.

I wish that they would make the vaccine available in smaller doses. My vet says splitting the tablet isn't a good idea because the ingredients might not be evenly mixed. I do it anyway, but it's frustrating that it has to be purchased with more doses than the average person needs.

I am sorry you lost your chicks to Marek's. I started vaccinating all of my chicks here on the farm several years ago. I get my Vaccine from Twin City Poultry. I am always hatching new chicks and I have anywhere from 100 to 200 birds at a time. The vaccine dose if for 1000 doses, but I divide it up into 10 equal parts and vaccinate each new batch of chicks. I also talk to my customers about whether their chicks are vaccinated before they add new chicks to their existing flocks. I think this is the one vaccine I couldn't do without.
Dividing the vaccine makes it very affordable, and I share the vaccine with folks that want to vaccinate their birds. You can vaccinate older birds for this, and I vaccinate any birds that I'm not certain that they've had the vaccine.

I have just purchased the vaccine for my chicks. Unfortunately they only sell it in 1000 dose in Australia.
How important is it to get the ratio right? I would only need 50 doses at a time which means I would have to cut it into 20 pieces! I'm worried it will be inaccurate and have too much or not enough virus.

how do you divide it up into 10 equal parts as the wafer is so fragile? thanks

Hi everyone, I am happy to
See this as I am vaccinating mine as well. Are you talking about the wafer inside the vaccine bottle? I have only 18 chicks that need vaccinating right now but have hopefully 8 to 10 more coming in a week or so.
Help!! My little ones are 6 and 7 days old now.

I have a question: I'm looking into purchasing the vaccine, but will have 2 separate hatches. I've been told I will have to purchase the vaccine in 2 bottles, and I don't find that very affordable. How do you divide it? I was wondering if that was possible but was told it wasn't. Thank you!

Were does one get mareks vaccines without having to order 500 doses

I haven't found any in smaller doses, but from what I've read it's a wafer that can be broken up so you don't have to use it all at once. Not very helpful if you're only doing one hatch, though. I've ordered mine from Jeffer's supply. It should be here Weds. and I can update you on how it went if it sounds like it would work for you.
