Get Marek's Disease Vaccination

I wish that they would make the vaccine available in smaller doses. My vet says splitting the tablet isn't a good idea because the ingredients might not be evenly mixed. I do it anyway, but it's frustrating that it has to be purchased with more doses than the average person needs. 

It's only $20 from Jeffers. For the safety of your chicks I'd recommend just mixing up the full vial and putting the rest in a hazardous waste container. Both over and under dosing can have long lasting effects.

Contact the manufacturer to push for smaller dose vials. Though chances are a 5 dose vial (1 ml reconstituted) would likely run the same $20! And sold to veterinarians only since after all if we (non exterminators, non ags) can't figure out how to safely use rat bait, what would we do with needles in our hands. The 1000 dose vials are probably available to us at this time because of poultry producers not having vets available every time they hatch out chicks. And of course having good lobbyists to try and keep it that way.

This is a tad of topic, but did anyone else vaccinate their new chicks for pigeon poxes or anything else other than Marek's? I'll be getting some new chicks soon, and I'm wondering if paying an extra $2 for the other vaccines offered would be worth it. I'm doing the Marek's at home, but a friend offered to vaccinate for pigeon pox, scaley leg (? I think that's what she said...), and some other disease. She'll do it for $2 a chick, and we'll have five chicks coming in. Is this a good deal?

I am sorry you lost your chicks to Marek's. I started vaccinating all of my chicks here on the farm several years ago. I get my Vaccine from Twin City Poultry. I am always hatching new chicks and I have anywhere from 100 to 200 birds at a time. The vaccine dose if for 1000 doses, but I divide it up into 10 equal parts and vaccinate each new batch of chicks. I also talk to my customers about whether their chicks are vaccinated before they add new chicks to their existing flocks. I think this is the one vaccine I couldn't do without.
Dividing the vaccine makes it very affordable, and I share the vaccine with folks that want to vaccinate their birds. You can vaccinate older birds for this, and I vaccinate any birds that I'm not certain that they've had the vaccine.

How do you go about separating it? It says it has an hour shelf life once mixed. I'd like to know. I just ordered five sets of the vaccine. It's so expensive

I see that you are in Idaho. Are you able to find it anywhere locally or do you order it? If so do you know who has the best prices?

The last time I got it I ordered online. I haven't bought any in a long time so I'm not current on who has the best price.
