(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
In 2015 I got 4 chickens. After an incident we gave them away. Then in March 2018 I got 2 more. My baby Sephora is what my account is named after.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I own 2 currently.

(3) What breeds do you have?
A Golden Wyandotte and an Americana. (I probably spelled that wrong!)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Trying to learn how to tame my chick.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Horseback riding, 4h,

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My first question...
My chicks always have food and water but they still get very hot. We spray down their coop top and mist them, but they still get super hot. Any tips?

Do you have a run? We've often planted bushes in ours so the birds can chill out in some shade while also getting a breeze the coop won't give em. I also put ice cubes in thier water cause some hate warm water to the point of not drinking

Welcome to BYC!!! When it gets hot here we like to give them cold snacks like watermelon, frozen grapes, etc. & we'll sometimes dip their feet in water.

We don’t have a run in our yard. I’ve tried the ice cubes and it helps a little but our water dish thing is metal so it melts extra fast. Thanks anyway.

Hello, and welcome to BYC! Does your coop have plenty of ventilation? If you free-range them instead of have them in a run, you might could put up some shade cloth and a small misting system somewhere around your yard for them.
