What about checking into substituting? That was the way I got my foot in the door and finally got a job. Also you can be known by the teachers who can refer you as an afterschool care giver. I would check into keeping teachers kids. You can bring them to school when you pick your daughter up. A friend of mine does this and has to turn people down.
