Hello fellow people,
I am getting a 5 month old male duck through my dads friends, as well as a 5 month old pullet. I currently have a flock of two 4 month old cockerels and seven 4 month old pullets, and would like to know what to expect.
What kind of things should I expect from the duck, and what things should I look out for? Hopefully this is the right place to post this. Sorry if its not.

Do you already have a duck? If not, you need a second duck. Ducks are flock animals and must be kept with at least one other duck.

Ducks are extremely messy with their water compared to chickens. They need water at least deep enough to duck their entire heads in, and benefit greatly from having swimming water. The area around their water and pool will get turned into a mud pit, it's just what ducks do, so expect that to happen quickly.

Since this is a male duck, be prepared to possibly have to keep him and his duck friend separate from your chickens. He may attempt to mate with your hens, and since ducks have penises, such attempts can seriously injure or kill your hens, so it's not something to take lightly.

Yes, you need to make sure that you have if not one, but 2 other ducks with this duck. They are animals that like to flock together and it would be very lonely without some other ducks friends. ALSO... I would try to have a small kiddie pool or something that stye can swim in and clean themselves with, if you cannot, then have the water at least as deep as there nose holes to ensure they are getting cleaned properly. Other than that... have fun!! Ducks are SOOO much fun, but VERY messy! Just make sure you clean there home out enough!
Good luck... and have fun!:thumbsup
