@OP, if you have phobia, limited space, live in city, and generl want something that won't fly at you, ducks are all around better (my male ducks only fight together, more roos than not want to fight and mate everything. Duck pair even better of as males very quiet, and a pair could breed calmer more familiar ducklings for you to grow out and help you get over the sounds movements ect that they may make. most bought adult ducks never fully tame down supposedly and remain nervous, maybe making you nervous. muscovy are not known for constant laying, and males get goose size, may hiss if threatened, and flap/fly, but hardly any noise and hens extremely pleasant sounding, all tame down much better than any other duck.
chickens on other hand are very noisy (the hens scream a lot, much worse to me than my roosters when they crow), peck flap a lot more, and chickens like to get up high and jump or fly off of, down on or past me mostly. ducks mostly roost and nest on the ground, and don't move nearly as fast. i love chickens and recommend them, but maybe then start out raising some hatchlings of each to see how they grow on you..
